About Us
Senior Occupational Therapist and founder of Functional Me Occupational Therapy, Meaghan Boyd, is an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT). Meaghan has worked as a practicing Occupational Therapist since graduating from the University of Sydney in 2007 and is an AHPRA Registered Occupational Therapist.
Having worked primarily in supporting presentations of Autism across the age range, Meaghan has a wealth of experience supporting neurodiversity across families. The importance of working both with children and their families has been proven time and time again to yield the most positive success, and this often begins with helping mum’s! More recently Meaghan has supported women with ADHD or a dual diagnosis of ADHD and autism, having become more of a passion and focus of therapy support. OT sessions work to support an understanding of diagnosis, how it presents, and unpacks the main challenges faced by the individual. Strategies and supports are worked through together to support executive functioning difficulties, planning, organising, regulation and understanding sensory processing to name a few. Meaghan is passionate about supporting functional goals and outcomes for the people she supports, while working from a strong evidence informed approach.
Meaghan supports the skill development of other occupational therapists through supervision and supports current Occupational Therapy students as a clinical facilitator at the University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus.
What We Do
Supporting everyday function is important, and is the key driver for Functional Me Occupational Therapy. Each and every one of us have a number of occupations that we need to be functional in, i.e. mother, wife/partner, employee, friend, and when these occupations are ‘out of wack’ or not ‘functional’ to meet the demands, occupational therapy support is available.
Functional Me Occupational Therapy supports women and children. Supports Women to meet their full pOTential in their everyday lives. For any autistic women, women who support autistic children, those with presentations of ADHD or with a child with ADHD, or any women who just needs some guidance and support, we’re here to help! We know the cliches’ ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’, ‘put your oxygen mask on first before helping others’ but we don’t often look after ourselves, putting everyone else first. To be 'functional’ within your occupations or to functionally support your child, Occupational Therapy can be helpful. Support can also be provided for children, with taking on a whole family approach.
There are many things that can impact everyday functioning, these could include difficulties with executive functioning (planning and organising), sensory processing differences (responding differently to sounds, smells, movement, easily distracted), external pressures and demands (balancing work, family, extra curricular activities) and emotional regulation (becoming easily frustrated or annoyed) to name a few.
Our sessions are tailored to you and your individual needs. The session duration and number of sessions are discussed with you to determine the best option. Assessments and reports can be completed if required. Sessions are 1:1, or if a child is present, sessions consist of the child and parent/family together in the session.
Our framework of support is to get to know you, review impacted occupations and use our OT models of support to ensure we support all areas of need, trying to get to the cause of the difficulties before working together through the solutions to support.
